Urban Solar Corp. Illuminates Bus Shelters in San Jose with Solar Powered LED Lighting
VICTORIA, BC, Canada, September, 02, 2009 - Urban Solar Corporation has received a contract with Clear Channel Outdoor of Oakland, CA, a global provider of street furniture and outdoor advertising in the fast growing, sustainable, public transportation sector. Clear Channel provides the shelters and amenities for Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) in San Jose, California.
"Urban Solar is pleased to work with Clear Channel Outdoor, a leader in outdoor street furniture advertising for transit shelters" states Jeff Peters, Urban Solar's President & CEO. "It is a strong statement in support of our transit solar PV-Shelter technology. We look forward to the completion of the VTA project, as well as the strengthening of our relationship for future projects."
As part of their outdoor advertising and shelter partner program, Clear Channel plans to deploy solar lighting for VTA and San Jose residents. "Clear Channel continues to respond to the demand from government agencies and the public to deploy solar power on our outdoor advertising structures" states Catherine Carr, Street Furniture Manager for Clear Channel Outdoor/Northern California. "These shelters are an important step in reducing greenhouse gases, conserving energy and promoting eco-friendly alternatives to traditional energy sources."
Urban Solar's PV-Shelter solar-powered LED lighting systems provide dusk to dawn illumination enabling VTA passengers to easily identify their bus stop while providing ambient light for additional security and convenience.
About the PV-Shelter
The Urban Solar PV-Shelter is a stand alone, autonomous solar powered LED lighting system. A photovoltaic module (solar panel) charges the battery bank during the day. At night, the stored energy is released via the Energy Control Module to power the bright white Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). The entire system is maintenance free for up to five years.
Benefits of the PV-shelter include:
- Environmentally friendly technology
- No utility connection
- Greater passenger visibility
- Reduces rider "pass bys"
Clear Channel also supports transit shelter programs in other Northern California area cities including San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and Sacramento.
