Urban Solar’s PV Stop receives federal safety approval

Urban Solar, the leading manufacturer of solar power and solar powered LED lighting solutions, is proud to announce UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.) approval for their PV Stop transit lighting solution. UL is a NRTL – each Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) Program is recognized by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration or OSHA to perform certification for certain products to ensure that they meet the requirements of both the construction and general industry OSHA electrical standards. The PV Stop is a solar powered LED light specifically designed for stand-alone LED lighting at bus stops. Coupling powerful LED technology and intuitive power management with environmentally friendly solar power, Urban Solar provides transit users, drivers and officials with a safe, green, economical and practical bus stop amenity.

UL is a global independent safety science company with more than a century of expertise innovating safety solutions from the public adoption of electricity to new breakthroughs in sustainability, renewable energy and nanotechnology. Dedicated to promoting safe living and working environments, UL helps safeguard people, products and places in important ways, facilitating trade and providing peace of mind.

We are pleased to have received a UL listing, a world leader in product safety and testing standards, to further validate our integrated solar-LED product designs. This approval is a direct result of our experience with solar lighting, high design metrics and best of breed components used in our solar powered LED lighting solutions,” states Jeff Peters, Urban Solar’s President. “UL approval is a further indication of Urban Solar’s industry leading solar powered LED solutions. UL approval will further demonstrate to customers our industry leading system performance and safety standards”.

Each NRTL has a scope of test standards that they are recognized for, and each NRTL uses its own unique registered certification mark(s) to designate product conformance to the applicable product safety test standards. OSHA recognizes over fifteen NRTLs including CSA, TUV and UL. After certifying a product, the NRTL authorizes the manufacturer to apply a registered certification mark to the product. If the certification is done under the NRTL program, this mark signifies that the NRTL tested and certified the product, and that the product complies with the requirements of one or more appropriate product safety test standards.
