Urban Solar’s Commitment to US-Based Manufacturing

Urban Solar Team with our US-based manufacturing team.

At Urban Solar, we are deeply committed to supporting U.S.-based manufacturing and ensuring compliance with Buy America and Build America requirements. Whether it's our solar lighting systems or our E-Paper display technology, we prioritize domestic sourcing wherever possible to align with federal standards and deliver high-quality products our customers can count on.

Buy America and Build America compliance for solar lighting and e-paper displays

We are proud to say that all of Urban Solar’s solar lighting systems are Buy America and Build America compliant. We remain dedicated to transparency, compliance and innovation across our full product line.

For our e-paper display products, we share the same commitment. While certain components — such as E-Ink display screens — must be sourced from outside the US due to being unavailable in North America, we ensure every step we take is in line with federal compliance and focused on maximizing domestic value.

US-Based Manufacturing Facilities

Urban Solar is proud to build and assemble all our products in the United States at our facilities in Oregon. For our solar lighting systems, we source and manufacture aluminum, fasteners and hardware from trusted US-based suppliers. Our all-aluminum enclosures are sourced, bent, punched, powder-coated and assembled in Portland, Oregon. Our production capabilities allow us to carry out final assemblies using American-made metal fasteners, cabling and structural components.

Our digital signage displays are also built domestically, using US-sourced metal, polycarbonate, fasteners and hardware. We assemble all products at our Oregon facilities, including the fabrication of key components such as vandal-resistant housing, polycarbonate screen protectors, and aluminum fasteners. These efforts ensure our products are high-quality, durable and compliant with Buy America and Build America guidelines.

Addressing component compliance

Solar lighting

We’ve made extensive efforts to source solar panels and LED luminaires domestically. However, US manufacturers currently do not have the capabilities needed to produce the specific 20W, 42W, 100W and 170W rigid solar panels — or the specialized luminaires — we use in our systems. As a result, we continue to source these components from overseas suppliers.

We’re actively engaged in dialogue with US-based solar panel and LED luminaire manufacturers to secure a future domestic supply. This effort is part of our larger mission to reduce exposure to tariffs and duties while strengthening American manufacturing.

E-paper displays

A key component that is not currently available in the US is the E-Ink display screen used in our digital signage. These screens are exclusively manufactured in Taiwan due to patent protections and technology licensing, which limit domestic production options.

However, federal regulations provide exceptions for components that cannot be reasonably sourced domestically. By sourcing only the E-Ink screen from abroad and performing the rest of the assembly, including enclosures and hardware in the US, we ensure the majority of the value-added manufacturing remains within the country, keeping our products in full compliance.
